\u201cDo you want to meet somewhere or give me your address?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n

Despite my reservations, I agreed to meet him in a nearby park. \u201cCome over to my neighborhood. There\u2019s a park not far from where I live. I\u2019ll send you the address.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cPerfect,\u201d he said, sounding relieved. \u201cDon\u2019t worry, it\u2019s contained for now.\u201d<\/p>\n
I hung up, still puzzled. What could be lurking under my seat? My mind envisioned various scenarios, none of which were comforting.<\/p>\n
Twenty minutes later, I stood by the Corolla, feeling the cool morning air. The neighborhood was quiet, with most people still asleep.<\/p>\n
An old pickup truck finally pulled up. The driver, a man who looked to be in his late twenties, scanned the area nervously before spotting me.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m Ben,\u201d he said, introducing himself. \u201cThank you for meeting me.\u201d<\/p>\n
He was younger than I had expected, with disheveled hair and an anxious expression. My initial discomfort softened as I saw his genuine concern.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo problem,\u201d I said. \u201cSo, what exactly did you leave under the seat?\u201d<\/p>\n
Ben knelt beside the car and reached under the driver\u2019s seat. After a moment, he pulled out a small, sealed box with tiny air holes punched into the top. My heart skipped a beat as I wondered if it contained something sinister.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m really sorry,\u201d he said, holding up the box. \u201cI have a pet gecko, and I feed it live insects. I must have left this box of mealworms and roaches under the seat when I was unloading the car.\u201d<\/p>\n
I blinked in disbelief. \u201cYou left a box of live insects?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cNot intentionally,\u201d he admitted. \u201cI was running late and rushed to the dealership without realizing it. I was so worried about the insects escaping that I couldn\u2019t sleep.\u201d<\/p>\n
I couldn\u2019t help but laugh. The thought of bugs scurrying around my car was both terrifying and absurd. \u201cYou\u2019re lucky they didn\u2019t get out,\u201d I said, chuckling.<\/p>\n
Ben\u2019s sheepish grin turned into a relieved smile. \u201cI know it sounds ridiculous. I didn\u2019t mean to scare you. The gecko, Samson, is my little brother\u2019s pet. He adores it.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s quite a story,\u201d I said. \u201cI had a pet frog for a couple of weeks as a kid, until my mother found it bouncing around my room.\u201d<\/p>\n
Our shared amusement broke the tension. We laughed until tears streamed down our faces.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want to make it up to you,\u201d Ben said suddenly. \u201cHow about a coffee? As an apology for the bug mishap?\u201d<\/p>\n
I was taken aback by the offer but felt a spark of curiosity. \u201cSure, why not?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cGreat!\u201d Ben said, his face lighting up. \u201cThere\u2019s a caf\u00e9 not far from here. Would you like to go now?\u201d<\/p>\n
I grinned, half-joking, \u201cHow about you take me to a car wash first, to wash away any lingering bugs and paranoia?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cActually, that\u2019s the least I can do,\u201d he said. \u201cLet\u2019s go.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ben secured the box of insects in his truck and locked the Corolla. As we drove to the car wash, Ben talked about his little brother, who lived with him and went to a nearby school.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s wonderful,\u201d I said, impressed by his commitment to family.<\/p>\n
At the car wash, Ben made sure the car received a thorough cleaning. We enjoyed coffee together afterward, sharing stories and laughter.<\/p>\n
