Carly felt a tug at her heart. His desperation was palpable, and she couldn\u2019t imagine how helpless he felt. Without thinking, she stood up.<\/p>\n
\u201cIs it true?\u201d she asked softly. \u201cIs your daughter really sick?\u201d<\/p>\n
The man looked up, his eyes filled with tears. \u201cYes, she is. I wouldn\u2019t lie about this.\u201d<\/p>\n
Carly glanced down at the envelope of money still in her hand. She knew there were more important things than a pretty dress.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ll pay his fine,\u201d she said quietly, feeling a mix of sadness and resolve. \u201cHis daughter\u2019s health is more important than anything else.\u201d<\/p>\n
The man, whose name she later learned was Rick, stared at her in disbelief. \u201cThank you!\u201d he said, overwhelmed.<\/p>\n
After a few more words, he hurried off the bus. Carly watched him go, her heart heavy but hopeful that she had made the right decision.<\/p>\n
