When my six-year-old daughter, Tia, began reporting that someone was lurking in her closet, I assumed it was just her imagination. However, one night, I decided to check for myself, and what I discovered prompted me to ask for help.<\/p>\n
I\u2019m Amelia, a 35-year-old single mother to my wonderful daughter Tia. She\u2019s always been curious, full of questions about the world. But a few weeks ago, her curiosity turned into something that made us both lose sleep.<\/p>\n
I divorced Tia\u2019s father, Alberto, when she was just a year old. Our relationship changed after I became pregnant. He told me he wasn\u2019t ready to be a father, and our arguments escalated quickly. I thought he would change after Tia was born, but I was wrong. Alberto had no desire to be a parent, often complaining when Tia cried at night.<\/p>\n
One day, I got tired of waiting for him to change. I packed our bags and didn\u2019t look back. Parenting Tia alone has been difficult, but she is my world, and I\u2019ll do anything to keep her safe and happy. That\u2019s why what happened next rocked me to the core.<\/p>\n

It began on a Tuesday night. After reading her favorite story, I was about to turn off the lights when she grabbed my arm. \u201cMommy, wait! There\u2019s someone in my closet,\u201d she said, her eyes wide with fear.<\/p>\n
I sighed, assuming it was just another excuse to delay bedtime. \u201cSweetie, it\u2019s just your imagination. I promise, nothing\u2019s in there.\u201d<\/p>\n
Tia shook her head. \u201cNo, Mommy, I heard them! They\u2019re making noises!\u201d<\/p>\n
I opened the closet door. \u201cSee? Nothing but your clothes and toys. No monsters, no boogeymen.\u201d<\/p>\n
She didn\u2019t look convinced, so I gave her a kiss and exited the room. Over the next three days, Tia\u2019s worry intensified. She woke up sobbing about \u201csomeone\u201d in her closet and refused to play in her room. At first, I brushed it off\u2014\u201cIt\u2019s just the wind.\u201d But deep down, I felt guilty for dismissing her fears.<\/p>\n
On Thursday morning, Tia entered my room with her teddy bear. \u201cCan I sleep with you tonight?\u201d she asked. I kneeled down. \u201cWhat\u2019s wrong with your room?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe closet people\u2026 they were talking last night.\u201d<\/p>\n
That night, while preparing dinner, I overheard Tia talking in her room. \u201cMr. Closet Person, please go away. You\u2019re scaring me,\u201d she said. I hesitated, unsure of what to do.<\/p>\n
Then came the night that changed everything. It was Friday, and as I got Tia ready for bed, she broke down. \u201cPlease don\u2019t make me sleep here. It\u2019s real, Mommy. I hear it. They talk and buzz and move around.\u201d<\/p>\n
My heart broke seeing her so scared. \u201cOkay, I\u2019ll check. But there\u2019s nothing to be afraid of.\u201d<\/p>\n
I opened the closet door and, just as I was about to turn, I heard a strange, faint buzzing sound.<\/p>\n
\u201cDid you hear that, Mommy?\u201d Tia whispered.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s probably just the pipes,\u201d I said, but the buzzing seemed to come from inside the wall.<\/p>\n
The next morning, I contacted an exterminator. They arrived that afternoon. When Mike, the exterminator, inspected the wall, he gave me a serious look. \u201cMa\u2019am, you\u2019ve got a pretty serious situation here.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat do you mean?\u201d I asked.<\/p>\n
He pointed to a small break near the baseboard. \u201cYou\u2019ve got a massive beehive in there.\u201d<\/p>\n
I was shocked. \u201cIn the walls?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cBees can be sneaky. They probably found a small opening and set up shop.\u201d<\/p>\n
Later that night, I sat down with Tia. \u201cHoney, I owe you a big apology.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cFor what, Mommy?\u201d Tia asked, confused.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor not believing you about the noises in your closet. You were right. There were bees living in the wall.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cBees? Like, buzzy bees?\u201d she asked.<\/p>\n
\u201cYes, buzzy bees. I\u2019m so sorry I didn\u2019t listen sooner.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s okay, Mommy. I forgive you,\u201d she said, hugging me tightly.<\/p>\n
We\u2019re currently in the guest room, waiting for Mike to clear out the swarm. I\u2019m relieved I called the exterminators in time. I can only imagine what would have happened if the bees had gotten into Tia\u2019s room.<\/p>\n
