Madelyn held the boy close, reassuring him, \u201cYou\u2019re safe now.\u201d Moments later, the police arrived, bringing with them a man named Henry. The moment he saw the boy, he rushed forward, relief washing over his face.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat’s my son,\u201d he said, kneeling down to scoop him up. The child smiled, recognizing his father. The officer explained to Madelyn that Henry had full custody and that Lesley had been barred from seeing the child due to serious issues.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou probably saved that boy from something terrible,\u201d the officer said, nodding in appreciation. Henry turned to Madelyn, his voice thick with gratitude. \u201cI owe you so much for keeping him safe.\u201d<\/p>\n
Madelyn smiled, feeling a weight lift from her heart. \u201cI\u2019m just glad he\u2019s okay.\u201d Henry hesitated, then offered, \u201cMaybe I could take you out for dinner sometime? It\u2019s the least I could do.\u201d<\/p>\n
