One lazy Saturday, I stumbled upon an episode of a daytime talk show. To my shock, Charlene was on screen, glammed up and ready to air her grievances. My heart raced as I listened.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just want a true wife for my son,\u201d she declared, \u201csomeone who can give him the life he deserves.\u201d I couldn\u2019t believe my ears.<\/p>\n

Then she dropped the bombshell: \u201cMy son is a widower.\u201d<\/p>\n

What? I was alive and well, and this woman was publicly claiming I was dead. She continued, trashing my name and suggesting Holden needed a replacement. My heart raced with anger.<\/p>\n

I recorded the segment. Later, when Holden came home, I wasted no time. I showed him the video, and his expression shifted from confusion to fury.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re going to teach her a lesson,\u201d I said, feeling a sense of justice brewing inside me.<\/p>\n

The next morning, Holden called his mother. Using his best \u201cdevastated son\u201d voice, he delivered the false news. \u201cMom, something awful happened to my wife. She\u2026 she\u2019s gone.\u201d<\/p>\n

Charlene\u2019s reaction was immediate panic. \u201cWhat do you mean?\u201d she cried. Holden played along, letting her spirals unfold until she was begging to come over.<\/p>\n

An hour later, she stormed into our living room, mascara streaked down her cheeks. \u201cWhere is she?\u201d she shrieked, eyes darting around.<\/p>\n

\u201cRight here,\u201d I said, sipping my tea nonchalantly.<\/p>\n

Her face went pale. \u201cBut\u2026 you\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n

Holden stepped in, cold and firm. \u201cYou thought you could just erase my wife? You\u2019ve crossed a line, Mom.\u201d<\/p>\n

Charlene tried to defend herself, but it was too late. \u201cYou wanted to control me. But here\u2019s the thing \u2014 I get to decide my life, not you.\u201d<\/p>\n

She stood there, realization dawning. Without another word, she stumbled out, sobbing.<\/p>\n

I looked at Holden, both of us shaken but relieved. \u201cWell, that was something,\u201d I said.<\/p>\n

He chuckled, rubbing his temples. \u201cNext time, we might need to stage a real funeral\u2026 for her delusions.\u201d<\/p>\n
