I had been sorting through boxes when Dad\u2019s lawyer called about the will reading. I asked Matt to go in my place because I couldn\u2019t bear it.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m taking necessary action. This is my new home,\u201d she said, dismissively.<\/p>\n
\u201cYour house? What are you talking about?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cLooks like you should\u2019ve attended the will reading.\u201d She held up a sheet of paper with my dad\u2019s signature. \u201cGuess he knew who deserved it most.\u201d<\/p>\n
I staggered, clutching the car door. \u201cThat\u2019s impossible. Dad would never do that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Matt clenched his fists. \u201cYou\u2019re a covetous witch.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cDon\u2019t you dare talk about my son that way!\u201d I shouted.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ll do whatever I want.\u201d She smirked. \u201cAnd you both better hurry and clear your stuff off MY lawn.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAre you out of your mind?\u201d Matt growled.<\/p>\n
I called Dad\u2019s attorney, shaky. \u201cIs Jessica lying?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cActually, she wasn\u2019t given the house. It was a ruse to reveal her true nature.\u201d<\/p>\n
A wave of relief washed over me. \u201cA test?\u201d<\/p>\n
