Our childhood home was dilapidated, and we inherited two houses: the new house our parents lived in their last years. In order to satisfy our father\u2019s dream, Ian and Aaron chose to renovate the old house instead of Aaron selling it.<\/p>\n<p>Aaron pleaded with Ian, \u201cCome on, we can do so much more with the money.\u201d However, the house was precious to me, and I was unable to part with it.<\/p>\n<p>My wife Laura and I started doing renovations. We discovered a message from my father telling us to excavate beneath the ancient oak tree as we were removing wallpaper. We discovered a box full of documents that included a deed to a beach house for whoever fulfilled his request and a savings account for the house\u2019s renovation.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-15045\" src=\"http:\/\/ezzuye.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/464301119_538496832238792_3127463189947440664_n-300x291.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"291\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ezzuye.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/464301119_538496832238792_3127463189947440664_n-300x291.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ezzuye.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/464301119_538496832238792_3127463189947440664_n.jpg 481w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Aaron was really upset when we told him. He said, \u201cWhy should I get everything just because I kept the old dump?\u201d I said, \u201cIt\u2019s about honoring Dad\u2019s legacy.\u201d We didn\u2019t talk for weeks, but Laura and I kept working on the house\u2019s restoration and reliving happy memories.<\/p>\n<p>Aaron acknowledged that he overreacted months later. After making amends, we sold the beach house and put the proceeds into our kids\u2019 future.
