But he was already pulling me down the hall.<\/p>\n
He opened the door to the basement with surprising strength for a four-year-old, and I hesitated as the cold air hit my face. \u201cEric, we shouldn\u2019t\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s okay, Grandma,\u201d he said confidently. \u201cI\u2019ll show you.\u201d<\/p>\n
We descended the stairs, and the basement was larger than I expected. Boxes and old furniture lined the walls, but what caught my attention was a door hidden behind a plastic sheet.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere it is!\u201d Eric said, pointing.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t think we should open it,\u201d I said.<\/p>\n
But Eric tugged on my hand. \u201cIt\u2019s for you!\u201d<\/p>\n
Curious, I approached and reached for the doorknob. Just then, I heard footsteps. John came running down the stairs.<\/p>\n

Natalie nodded, tears in her eyes. \u201cWe know how much you miss Richard. Stay here with us, not just as a grandma who helps, but as part of the family. Just be happy.\u201d<\/p>\n
I looked around the room again, overwhelmed. \u201cEverything is here,\u201d I said, wiping my tears. \u201cYou did all of this… for me?\u201d<\/p>\n
