In our house, Dad was the king, and Mom was his servant. My brother Josh and I were practically invisible. Dad worked, ate, played video games, and slept. Mom did everything else. One evening, things finally boiled over.<\/p>\n
Dad came home from work, barely acknowledging us, and demanded dinner from Mom, who was busy with laundry. He plopped down on the couch to play video games, with no \u201cHow was your day?\u201d or any conversation. Mom rushed around while Josh and I exchanged a look. This couldn\u2019t go on. Dad treated Mom like a servant, and we were ignored.<\/p>\n
We decided to take action.<\/p>\n
The next day, we convinced Mom to take a spa day while Josh and I raided Dad\u2019s closet. We put on his shirts and ties, and waited. When Dad came home, he stopped at the sight of us dressed like him.<\/p>\n

Dad stared, then asked softly, \u201cIs this\u2026 how you see me?\u201d<\/p>\n
I nodded. \u201cYes, Dad. You treat Mom like a servant and ignore us. We\u2019ve had enough.\u201d<\/p>\n
Josh added, \u201cMom works as hard as you but also handles everything at home. You just complain and demand things.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dad\u2019s face fell. Then Mom walked in. She stopped, surprised by the scene.<\/p>\n
Dad turned to her. \u201cI\u2019ve been a terrible husband and father. I\u2019m sorry.\u201d<\/p>\n
He went into the kitchen and began cooking dinner \u2014 something he\u2019d never done before. When he returned, he served us each a portion. \u201cI\u2019ll do better,\u201d he promised.<\/p>\n
For the first time in years, Dad asked about our day and seemed genuinely interested. We ate together, and he even offered to help me study for a test. It felt surreal.<\/p>\n
As we cleaned up, Dad smiled. \u201cThank you for showing me how I\u2019ve been acting.\u201d<\/p>\n
Josh grinned. \u201cMaybe now you\u2019ll play games with us?\u201d<\/p>\n
