Bethany became more confident in her responses as she enjoyed the attention. She would say, \u201cJust the two of us, we should hang out more.\u201d I consented while recording our conversations in order to be ready for the big showdown.<\/p>\n
At last, the time arrived. I met Bethany for coffee alone. I had misled her into believing that my fake love had made her dazzling. \u201cJake, I\u2019m so happy we\u2019re doing this. Just us,\u201d she boldly flirted.<\/p>\n
I stepped in and said, \u201cBethany, there\u2019s something captivating about you,\u201d playing my part. I acknowledged that I had been thinking about us a lot while carefully observing her response.<\/p>\n
She said, flattered and totally duped, \u201cI knew you\u2019d come around, Jake. Together, we could be incredible.<\/p>\n
I then made the decision to attack. \u201cRemember what you said about Meg, Bethany? How could you call her hopeless and unpromising? When she realized how foolish she had been, her face slumped, her color fading.<\/p>\n
\u201cBethany, I heard everything. Each and every syllable. I continued, my tone cold, \u201cAnd while you thought you were pulling her down, you were actually exposing your own vile nature.\u201d<\/p>\n
After a moment of disbelief, she became angry and then begged. \u201cJake, I\u2026 I was just angry. I swear, I didn\u2019t mean it.<\/p>\n
\u201cBethany, it\u2019s too late to apologize. I said, getting up to go, \u201cYou\u2019re not the person Meg thinks you are, and you\u2019re definitely not the person I thought you were.\u201d This concludes here. I\u2019m hoping you manage to rise beyond this.<\/p>\n
