\u201cIf you know a little about me, then you\u2019d know I\u2019ve had a complicated relationship with Father\u2019s Day in the past,\u201d Culkin wrote in his Instagram caption.<\/p>\n

He wrote how his own relationship with his\u00a0father<\/a>\u00a0was not easy and thus he decided to \u201creinvent the wheel\u201d when he started his own family with 36-year-old Song.\u00a0\u201cOther than getting an hour or two of extra sleep, I try to make the day a celebration of my boys more than me,\u201d the\u00a0Home Alone<\/em>\u00a0wrote in his caption. \u201cAfter all, they are the ones who made me a father (no offense to Brenda),\u201d the 43-year-old actor added.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn our house Father\u2019s Day isn\u2019t held in as high regard as birthdays or Christmas but it does mop the floor of such holidays as St. Patrick\u2019s day, Valentine\u2019s Day and the 4th of July. I try to do fun things for the boys on Father\u2019s Day. It\u2019s a special day,\u201d he shared.<\/p>\n

\u201cFather\u2019s Day isn\u2019t for me,\u201d he said, \u201cit\u2019s for the people that make me feel like a father.\u201d<\/p>\n

The former child star has not made it a secret that things with his own father were strained for him growing up. He has shared previously how when he started to become more famous as a child, his father (who was also his manager) started to make unreasonable demands of him.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was making God-knows-how-much money, and Kit was making me sleep on the couch, just because he could,\u201d Culkin said in a 2001 interview. \u201cJust to let you know who\u2019s in charge and just to let you know if he doesn\u2019t want you to sleep in a bed, you\u2019re not going to sleep in a bed.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a 2018 conversation with\u00a0Marc Maron,\u00a0Culkin shared that his father had been abusive \u201ceven before the fame stuff.\u201d He alleged that his father was \u201cphysically and mentally\u201d abusive, especially after he developed a resentment at Culkin\u2019s successful career.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was jealous,\u201d he explained. \u201cEverything that he tried to do in his life I excelled at before I was 10 years old.\u201d<\/p>\n

Culkin\u00a0famously emancipated himself from his parents\u00a0when he was 16 years old. The actor also started legal proceedings against them for handling his $17 million fortune. A Manhattan Supreme Court judge placed the Culkin family\u2019s former attorney, Billy Breitner, in charge of the actor\u2019s money until he became 18 years old.<\/p>\n

Culkin and Song first became linked in 2018 and welcomed their first child, their son Dakota, in 2021. The couple welcomed their second son in 2022. They have not publicly revealed the name of their second child.<\/p>\n

In 2018, he was on Joe Rogan\u2019s podcast, and when asked if he wants children, he said, \u201cI\u2019m gonna make some babies,\u201d Culkin said. He went on, \u201cThis one\u2019s a good one, so I\u2019m probably going to put some babies in her in a little bit. I mean, we\u2019ve definitely been practicing.\u201d<\/p>\n

When Culkin received his\u00a0star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame\u00a0last December,\u00a0he shared in an interview that his kids\u2019 presence at the event was \u201cthe whole reason to do this.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s the reason pretty much to do anything now,\u201d he\u00a0said<\/a>. \u201cWe always talk about how we don\u2019t remember our life before our kids \u2014 it\u2019s a dream or a distant kind of concept, not a reality. I love the fact that my boys can come here and see a dog pee on my name.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also adores his partner. In his speech when receiving his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, he said, \u201cLastly, but not leastly, I\u2019d like to thank Brenda. You are absolutely everything. You\u2019re my champion. You\u2019re the only person happier for me today than I am.\u201d<\/p>\n
