Liam had never been one to spend much time in there. If anything, I\u2019d always teased him for how quickly he could shower and get ready. But six months ago, that changed. He started disappearing into the bathroom for hours at a time, locking the door behind him. At first, I didn\u2019t think much of it. Maybe he just needed some alone time. But then the noises started.<\/p>\n

One night, as I was folding laundry, I heard a dull thud, followed by heavy breathing and low grunts. My heart raced. \u201cLiam?\u201d I called through the door, trying to sound casual. \u201cEverything okay in there?\u201d<\/p>\n

The more I tried to ignore it, the more it bothered me. I started noticing other things: how he\u2019d avoid eye contact, how he\u2019d snap at me if I asked too many questions. \u201cCan\u2019t a guy have some privacy?\u201d he\u2019d say, his tone defensive. But privacy for what? I couldn\u2019t shake the feeling that something was wrong.<\/p>\n

Then, one afternoon, everything changed. Liam was in the bathroom again, and his phone buzzed on the counter. It was his mom calling. I answered, but as I went to lock the phone, I noticed a video on the screen. Curiosity got the better of me, and I clicked play.<\/p>\n

What I saw left me stunned. There was Liam, in the bathroom, wearing workout clothes and doing push-ups. Sweat dripped down his face as he grunted with effort. He switched to sit-ups, breathing heavily, pushing himself like I\u2019d never seen him do before. I couldn\u2019t believe it. All this time, he\u2019d been secretly working out.<\/p>\n

After a moment of hesitation, the door creaked open. There he was, flushed and sweaty, holding a resistance band. \u201cYou saw the video, didn\u2019t you?\u201d he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, I saw it,\u201d I said, crossing my arms. \u201cWhat on earth is going on?\u201d<\/p>\n

Liam sighed, running a hand through his damp hair. \u201cI\u2019ve put on weight,\u201d he admitted. \u201cNine kilos in the last few months. I felt so ashamed. I didn\u2019t want you to see me like this, so I started working out in secret.\u201d<\/p>\n

I stared at him, a mix of emotions swirling inside me. \u201cLiam, you absolute idiot!\u201d I finally said, laughing despite myself. \u201cYou could\u2019ve just told me. You know I\u2019d support you no matter what!\u201d<\/p>\n

He looked down, embarrassed. \u201cI didn\u2019t want to worry you. You\u2019ve been dealing with so much already\u2014work, my mom\u2019s health. I didn\u2019t want to add to that.\u201d<\/p>\n

My heart softened. \u201cLiam, we\u2019re a team. You don\u2019t have to hide things from me, especially not this.\u201d I reached out and touched his arm. \u201cNext time, let\u2019s work out together, okay?\u201d<\/p>\n

He smiled, the tension finally breaking. \u201cOkay. No more secrets.\u201d<\/p>\n

In that moment, I realized how much closer honesty could bring us. It wasn\u2019t about the weight or the workouts\u2014it was about facing life together, no matter what.<\/p>\n
