Flying with a five-year-old is so difficult, but that day, things were going surprisingly well. My daughter, Ella, was happily watching a show on her iPad, headphones snug over her little ears, completely perfect.<\/p>\n
Across the aisle, another boy around her age wasn\u2019t as content. His eyes kept rushing toward Ella\u2019s screen, his fidgeting growing more restless.<\/p>\n
\u201cMom, I want to watch too!\u201d<\/p>\n
Entitled Mom (EM) sighed significantly before tapping me on the shoulder.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re being responsible and not giving our son any screen time this trip,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cCould you put the iPad away? It\u2019s upsetting him.\u201d<\/p>\n
I blinked: \u201cNo, sorry. My daughter\u2019s calm and enjoying her show.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\u201cWow,\u201d she huffed, shaking her head.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo you\u2019d rather ruin our family trip than take a break from your kid\u2019s precious screen?\u201d Then, just loud enough for those around us to hear, she muttered,<\/p>\n
\u201cSome parents can\u2019t say no these days. No wonder kids are so spoiled.\u201d<\/p>\n
I bit my tongue and turned away, refusing to talk with her. Ella was peaceful, and I wasn\u2019t about to disrupt her over someone else\u2019s parenting choices.<\/p>\n
But EM wasn\u2019t done.<\/p>\n

She reached over and \u201caccidentally\u201d knocked over Ella\u2019s tray.<\/p>\n
The iPad tumbled to the floor with a sickening thud.<\/p>\n
\u201cOops! So clumsy of me!\u201d EM gasped.<\/p>\n
I wanted to scream, to demand she take responsibility, but she had already change mode, playing it off as an unfortunate incident.<\/p>\n
I told myself that karma had a way of working things out.<\/p>\n
I didn\u2019t expect it to happen so soon.<\/p>\n

\nNot long after the \u201cacci:dent,\u201d EM\u2019s son started crying even louder. But this time, it wasn\u2019t because of the iPad.<\/p>\n
\u201cMommy, I feel bad! I feel bad about the iPad!\u201d<\/p>\n
EM\u2019s face drained of color. She hadn\u2019t just upset my daughter\u2014she had unintentionally taught her own son a hard lesson in guilt.<\/p>\n
I didn\u2019t say anything. There was nothing left to say. Instead, I focused on Ella.<\/p>\n

She handed Ella a small stuffed airplane from the airline\u2019s merchandise with a warm smile. She hugged the toy close, her tears finally drying.<\/p>\n
\u201cThank you,\u201d I whispered.<\/p>\n
The flight attendant nodded. \u201cI\u2019ll also be reporting the inc:ident to my superiors. She might be facing some consequences.\u201d<\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t respond. I just gave her a small nod and turned my attention back to Ella, who was happily squeezing her new stuffed airplane.<\/p>\n
