Geraldine Joaquim, an experienced traveler, was left on \u2018high alert\u2019 after more than one problem arose
\nA woman has shared about one of her \u2018worst travel experiences\u2019 and why she would never visit the city again.<\/p>\n
Travel may\u2019ve ground to a halt during the pandemic, but many are picking up the pace again when it comes to seeing more of the world.<\/p>\n
Yet, if you are planning to get some inspiration for your travel list, there\u2019s one place one woman has sworn off going to again due to the \u2018stress\u2019 it caused her.<\/p>\n
Geraldine Joaquim has visited over 60 countries and takes around four holidays annually.<\/p>\n
The 54-year-old thinks it\u2019s \u2018important to see the good and the not-so-good\u2019 of countries and not just \u2018expect a sanitized version\u2019 however, an overnight stay in one particular city resulted in the hypnotherapist and wellness coach to avoid going there again.<\/p>\n
She disclosed that she was on a work trip to Isla Margarita \u2013 which lies in the Caribbean sea and is part of Venezuela \u2013 and flew from Montevideo, Uruguay, to the capital of Venezuela \u2013 Caracas.
\nJoaquim\u2019s flight arrived \u2018late at night\u2019 and so she\u2019d booked a car in order to travel from the airport to a hotel in the center for one overnight stay before reaching her final destination.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt felt pretty normal until I started waiting for the transfer, and waited and waited. I was there for hours and as the small airport emptied I realized I was alone.\u201d, Joaquim recalled.<\/p>\n

\nJoaquim explained her phone \u2018wasn\u2019t working\u2019 and there was \u2018no one else around\u2019 her so when \u2018a man showed up and said in broken English that he was here to take [her] to the hotel\u2019 she was \u2018relieved\u2019.<\/p>\n
However, after she got in the vehicle to find another man sat in the front seat, her \u2018stress response went through the roof\u2019.<\/p>\n
\u201cI would never normally get in a car with two strange men but I had no other options, so I got a tiny pen knife from my hand luggage and spent the 30-minute journey on high alert with it clutched in my hand,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Luckily, Joaquim arrived at the hotel OK, but experienced poor sleep and the nightmares didn\u2019t end there either.<\/p>\n

\nThe following day, she arrived back at the airport only to have her bags seemingly stolen as she was paying the driver.<\/p>\n
AsJoaquim caught up with the man, she was told he was offering an informal \u2018check in service\u2019 and had to pay him.<\/p>\n
