Lately, more and more celebrities have either left America or announced their plans to do so. One of them is actress and comedian Rosie O\u2019Donnell, who is now speaking out about her decision to flee the U.S. and start a new life in Ireland.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been heartbreaking to see what\u2019s happening politically and hard for me personally as well,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n

Why Rosie O\u2019Donnell moved from US<\/strong>
\nRosie O\u2019Donnell, best known for her hosting duties on The Rosie O\u2019Donnell Show and The View, has officially left the United States. The outspoken comedian, a longtime critic of Donald Trump, revealed that she moved to Ireland after his victory over Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Donnell, who has publicly clashed with Trump since 2006, confirmed that she left the U.S. on January 15 \u2014 just five days before his inauguration. She is now settling into life in Ireland and has started the process of applying for Irish citizenship, as her grandparents were originally from the island.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been pretty wonderful, I have to say,\u201d the 62-year-old shared in a TikTok video. \u201cAnd the people have been so loving, so kind, and so welcoming. And I\u2019m very grateful.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, O\u2019Donnell teased her move, revealing she had bought a used car to \u201ctool around the countryside on the wrong side of the road.\u201d<\/p>\n

The TV personality made the move to Ireland with her 12-year-old daughter, Dakota, and has stated she will only return to the U.S. when there are \u201cequal rights\u201d for all citizens.<\/p>\n

Rosie shares Dakota, who goes by the nickname Clay, with her late ex-wife, Michelle Rounds. Her decision to leave came just months after Ellen DeGeneres also said goodbye to the U.S. Other celebrities have similarly voiced their desire to relocate.<\/p>\n

Inside her feud with Donald Trump<\/strong>
\nRosie O\u2019Donnell\u2019s choice to leave the U.S. isn\u2019t all that surprising\u2014especially considering her long history of clashing with Donald Trump. The two have been at odds since 2006, when O\u2019Donnell criticized Trump on The View for being too lenient toward Miss USA winner Tara Conner, who had faced allegations of drug use and other misconduct.<\/p>\n

Trump fired back, calling O\u2019Donnell a \u201creal loser.\u201d Defending his decision, he stated, \u201cI am a believer in second chances. Tara is a good person. Tara has tried hard. Tara is going to be given a second chance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Their public clashes only escalated over the years. In 2014, O\u2019Donnell told People that it was \u201cthe most bullying I ever experienced in my life.\u201d She ramped up her criticism during Trump\u2019s presidency, even joking to Seth Meyers in 2017 that she spent \u201cabout 90% of my working hours tweeting hatred toward this administration.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump famously referenced O\u2019Donnell in a 2015 Republican debate, when asked about calling women names like \u201cfat pigs\u201d and \u201dslobs,\u201d responding with, \u201cOnly Rosie O\u2019Donnell,\u201d drawing laughter from the crowd.<\/p>\n

\u201dThis is a madman\u201d<\/strong>
\nEven during the 2024 election, Trump took another jab at O\u2019Donnell, saying The View had gotten \u201cso bad\u201d that producers \u201creally need to bring Rosie O\u2019Donnell back.\u201d<\/p>\n

O\u2019Donnell, in turn, stayed vocal throughout the campaign, frequently posting on TikTok. In a fiery Thanksgiving video, she warned: \u201cYou can\u2019t forget what he\u2019s capable of. \u2026 This is not a sane person. This is a madman. You gotta get ready for what\u2019s coming. When democracy falls, fascism takes its place.\u201d<\/p>\n

Not everything about the move to Ireland has been easy\u2014something O\u2019Donnell openly admits. One of the hardest parts has been being away from family members who remain in the U.S.<\/p>\n

The comedian shared that she still thinks about her home country every day, saying, \u201dI am hoping that we can turn things around. I\u2019m counting on you, all of you, to do what\u2019s right. And I think deep down inside we all know what that is.\u201d<\/p>\n

She also addressed fans who have been worried about her and missed her, expressing her regret: \u201dI\u2019m sorry.\u201d<\/p>\n

Explaining her decision further, she added, \u201dI just felt like we needed to take care of ourselves and make some hard decisions and follow through. And now, as we\u2019re getting settled, I was ready to post this and tell everybody what\u2019s going on.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018Poor Ireland\u2019 vs. \u2018I hope you find peace\u2019<\/strong>
\nDespite calling her experience in Ireland \u201cwonderful\u201d and praising the people for being \u201cso welcoming,\u201d not everyone was thrilled about her relocation.<\/p>\n

Critics wasted no time sharing their thoughts online. Some took the opportunity to mock O\u2019Donnell\u2019s departure, with one commenter writing, \u201cPoor Ireland.\u201d Another added, \u201cGlad she kept her promise! May her friends follow.\u201d<\/p>\n

Others went further, questioning her commitment to leaving. \u201cI feel bad for Ireland, but good for the States\u2026 However, if she is serious, she needs to rescind her American citizenship.\u201d<\/p>\n

One person sarcastically thanked her for leaving, writing, \u201cTHANK YOU, ROSIE!!! BEST GIFT TO US WHO LOVE OUR COUNTRY!!!\u201d<\/p>\n

However, O\u2019Donnell also received an outpouring of support. One fan reassured her, \u201cI absolutely loved Ireland. I hope you find your peace there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Others expressed their own frustration with the state of the U.S.: \u201cI don\u2019t blame her. If I could, I\u2019d do the same thing! I\u2019m beyond ashamed of my country and fearful of what\u2019s to come.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another person voiced concern, saying, \u201cPlease don\u2019t forget us. We can\u2019t leave.\u201d<\/p>\n

Some were simply stunned by the situation. \u201cI can\u2019t believe we live in a world where Rosie O\u2019Donnell has to flee from America for safety.\u201d<\/p>\n
