But as I opened WhatsApp, a message preview caught my eye.<\/p>\n
\u201cMan, I swear, married life ages a woman overnight. Y\u2019all see how tired she looks now? \ud83d\ude06\u201d<\/p>\n
My stomach twisted. The message was from Leon\u2026 in a group chat called \u201cThe Boys \ud83c\udf7b.\u201d My hands felt numb as I clicked it open.<\/p>\n
The messages kept coming.<\/p>\n
\u2014 \u201cBro, I remember when she was hot. What happened?\u201d
\n\u2014 \u201cAin\u2019t no way she\u2019s only 42. She looks at least 50.\u201d

And then Leon again:<\/p>\n

I gripped the phone so hard my knuckles turned white. This was my husband\u2014the man who once called me the most beautiful woman he\u2019d ever seen. The man who promised to love me forever. And here he was, laughing about me like I was some joke.<\/p>\n
The worst part? His friends agreed with him. Not one of them defended me. Not one said, \u201cDude, that\u2019s your wife.\u201d They just piled on, making me sound like some washed-up has-been.<\/p>\n

He opened his mouth, but for the first time in a long time, he had nothing to say.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s what I thought.\u201d<\/p>\n
I should have been angrier, but standing there, watching him scramble for an excuse, something in me shifted.<\/p>\n
I realized I wasn\u2019t just mad at him for this. I was mad at myself\u2014for putting up with the slow, steady decline of our marriage for years. For letting myself shrink while he grew bolder in his disrespect.<\/p>\n

His head snapped up. \u201cWait\u2014what? You\u2019re seriously talking about leaving over a joke?\u201d<\/p>\n
I exhaled slowly. \u201cThis isn\u2019t just about the joke. It\u2019s about everything. The way you go out all the time while I\u2019m home alone. The way you barely look at me anymore unless it\u2019s to criticize something. The way I\u2019ve been feeling more like a roommate than a wife.\u201d<\/p>\n
He shook his head. \u201cThat\u2019s not fair.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cNeither is being married to a man who thinks it\u2019s okay to tear me down to get a few laughs from his friends.\u201d<\/p>\n
Silence stretched between us. I waited, hoping\u2014maybe foolishly\u2014that he\u2019d fight for me. That he\u2019d say something to prove I was wrong about him.<\/p>\n
