The Oscar-winning actress and L\u2019Or\u00e9al Paris ambassador recently shared her thoughts on beauty, individuality, and the evolving role of women in filmmaking while attending the Cannes Film Festival to promote The Most Precious of Cargoes.<\/p>\n

\nEmbracing Individuality Over Conventional Beauty
\nAt 78, Mirren acknowledges that while some people, like Naomi Campbell and David Beckham, are undeniably beautiful, she doesn\u2019t see herself in that category. \u201cThat\u2019s fine by me,\u201d she told PEOPLE.<\/p>\n
\u201cI look okay, but I\u2019m not that beautiful. We are all individuals, and the key is embracing that uniqueness rather than aspiring to be someone else.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nShe noted that young women often struggle with self-acceptance, recalling her own youthful desire to emulate Twiggy, the iconic 1960s model. \u201cI desperately wanted to be Twiggy,\u201d she admitted, \u201cbut I absolutely was not.\u201d<\/p>\n
Over time, she learned the real value lies in embracing one\u2019s authentic self. \u201cThe trick is to accept and love yourself, recognize your individuality, and be proud of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nAdvocating for Women in Film<\/p>\n
During Cannes, Mirren participated in the Lights on Women Award ceremony, an initiative launched by L\u2019Or\u00e9al Paris in 2021 to support emerging female filmmakers.<\/p>\n
She emphasized that filmmaking requires immense courage. \u201cYou have to be bold to use someone else\u2019s money to bring your vision to life,\u201d she explained. \u201cThat\u2019s why providing opportunities for female storytellers is so vital.\u201d<\/p>\n
