Taking no chances, the couple sent a $240 bill to everyone who had turned in the wrong RSVP for the event.<\/p>\n

The invoice was released on X, formerly known as Twitter. \u201cI don\u2019t think I\u2019ve ever seen a wedding reception invoice before lol,\u201d the user thweddat wrote in response to a picture of the bill.<\/p>\n
The couple came forward, despite the suspicions of some that the invoice was fake. From Chicago, Doug Simmons and Dedra McGee delivered an invoice.<\/p>\n
When the couple discussed what had happened with the media, the groom said he would have felt \u201csome kind of way\u201d if guests had not shown up after confirming their attendance.<\/p>\n

The bill was originally shared by Doug on Facebook. \u201cThis invoice is being sent to you because you confirmed seat(s) at the wedding reception during the Final Headcount,\u201d the pair wrote in the invoice\u2019s notes section. It continues, explaining, \u201cThis sum is what you owe us for paying for your seat(s) in advance because you did not call or give us prior notice that you would not be in attendance. PayPal or Zelle can be used for payment. Please get in touch with us and let us know which payment option is most convenient for you.I\u2019m grateful.<\/p>\n
Then, a lot of people started to disagree over whether this was a reasonable request.<\/p>\n
\u201cI wish I had considered it.\u201d Of the people that sent in RSVPs for our wedding, one-third did not arrive. One customer stated, \u201cEven though it cost much less than $120 a plate, we paid for a LOT of food that went to waste.\u201d \u201cYou are so dear to us that we invited you to our wedding,\u201d said someone else who disapproved of their choice. But since you didn\u2019t let us show you in person, we are going to break up that relationship for $240. However, you\u2019ll receive an invitation to our baby shower eventually, so please bring a present or a collection of faces.<\/p>\n
How easy it would be to just mail the invoice back, wondered one Twitter user.<\/p>\n

Things had gotten \u201ca little petty,\u201d the groom said, but he clarified, saying, \u201cI am not some trifling person who is going to bill somebody.\u201d<\/p>\n
Simmons is a Chicago-based small business owner. He wanted it to be known that the things that mattered were not material wealth but rather the disdain he and his spouse had for those who promised to attend their wedding but did not. They had put a lot of effort into saving money for their large-guest wedding.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey repeatedly responded \u201cYes\u201d when we asked four times, \u2018Are you available to come, can you make it?,’\u201d he explained. He expressed his annoyance, saying, \u201cThis was a destination wedding\u2014we had to pay in advance for Jamaica.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nBut after doing a final count, they found that not all of the people who had indicated they would be there had actually shown up. He gave the following explanation of how it occurred: \u201cNo one texted or told me, \u2018Hey, we can\u2019t make it.’\u201d All I wanted for was that. I would understand if you told me you couldn\u2019t make it, but to keep me in the dark and then allow me to cover the cost of you and your companions? \u201cI took it personally.\u201d Four people turned into eight people.<\/p>\n
