My parents, however, have always prioritized my half-sister Ashley and our foster siblings, Natasha and Everett, often making me feel invisible.<\/p>\n
The night of Ryan’s family dinner was supposed to be a normal evening. Amidst the chatter and laughter, my new mattress arrived. I was excited and quickly set it up, but when I returned to the table, the atmosphere had shifted.<\/p>\n

Granddad\u2019s words shocked everyone. He declared, “We were going to gift you an apartment, but seeing how you treat Jason, we\u2019ve decided to give it to him instead.”<\/p>\n
My mom was outraged, “Dad, he\u2019s just a kid. He doesn\u2019t need an apartment.”<\/p>\n
Grandma added, “He needs a place where he feels valued and not constantly overlooked.”<\/p>\n
My parents’ attempt to undermine me had backfired. I accepted the apartment keys, overwhelmed and grateful. My grandparents’ support was a revelation. For the first time, I felt truly seen.<\/p>\n
In the following days, my parents faced backlash from the extended family for their neglect. Natasha and Everett also voiced their fears of being treated like I was, adding to my parents’ guilt.<\/p>\n
Eventually, I settled into my new apartment, a small but cozy space that felt like a new beginning. My grandparents visited often, bringing homemade meals and offering emotional support.<\/p>\n
