Reluctantly, Carina agreed. She wanted to celebrate her achievements and share her joy. When her parents arrived at her home, they were stunned to discover it was hers, not just a rented room. \u201cYou own this entire house?\u201d her father asked, wide-eyed.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Carina responded proudly, \u201cYes, Dad. I worked hard for this.\u201d<\/p>\n

But as soon as they entered, her mother\u2019s entitlement surfaced. \u201cYou know, Carina,\u201d she declared, scanning the living room, \u201cWe deserve to live in comfort after all we’ve done for you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carina was incredulous. \u201cMom, this is my home. I bought it with my own money. You did nothing to support me after high school.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carina looked at her parents with a mix of sadness and resolve. \u201cI love you, but this is my life. You\u2019ve been absent for years and now you\u2019re demanding things. Is that fair? I\u2019ve worked too hard to let anyone take that away from me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her father sighed, \u201cWe didn\u2019t mean to upset you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carina replied gently, \u201cRespect my choice. Be present for the wedding, but after that, you can go your own way.\u201d<\/p>\n

The dinner at the restaurant was subdued, but Carina\u2019s focus remained on the positives\u2014her upcoming wedding and the support from Mark and his in-laws. As they talked about the wedding, Carol\u2019s comments about the dress fitting reminded Carina of the love and support she had in her life.<\/p>\n
