Ariel and I have always had a complicated relationship. As the older, more responsible sister, I often found myself cleaning up after her chaos. Despite our differences, we both cherished Gramps, who had been our rock, especially after Dad’s passing.<\/p>\n

When Ariel volunteered to organize Gramps’ 90th birthday party, I was immediately concerned. Ariel wasn\u2019t known for her planning skills. I voiced my doubts to Mom, who urged me to trust Ariel and give her a chance. Reluctantly, I sent Ariel the $50 she requested.<\/p>\n

On the day of the party, I was shocked to find that Ariel had booked a sushi restaurant filled with loud, drunk university students. Gramps, who didn\u2019t even eat sushi, was visibly uncomfortable. Ariel, oblivious to the disaster, insisted that Gramps should enjoy the youthful atmosphere.<\/p>\n

When the bill arrived, Ariel handed it directly to Gramps, expecting him to pay. I was furious. “Ariel, what are you doing? Gramps shouldn\u2019t have to pay for his own birthday party!”<\/p>\n

Ariel looked confused. “Well, I organized everything. It\u2019s only fair.”<\/p>\n

I snatched the bill from her, refusing to let Gramps pay. “You\u2019ve ruined this day for him, and now you think he should cover it?”<\/p>\n

Despite Gramps’ attempts to calm the situation, I took control. I approached the waitress and requested to split the bill. Then, I used the aux cord to play some of Ariel\u2019s own audio clips where she complained about her roommate and boyfriend, making sure everyone heard.<\/p>\n

The room fell silent as Ariel\u2019s voice filled the restaurant. Shocked, Ariel\u2019s friends started to leave, and Ariel was left in tears. Gramps, though disappointed, appreciated my intervention.<\/p>\n

Outside, I told Ariel, “We\u2019re not kids anymore. Our actions have consequences. I hope you\u2019ve learned something from this.”<\/p>\n

Ariel nodded, her remorse evident. “I\u2019m sorry, Jocelyn. I\u2019ll do better next time.”<\/p>\n
