My SIL Ruined My Wedding Because I’m Not Good Enough for Her Brother

Colin and I were soon getting married, and his sister Meredith was flying in for the event. We had never met, but Colin spoke highly of her, describing her as fun and strong-willed. I was eager to finally meet her, hoping to make a good impression since family was important to him.

When I walked in after work, laughter filled the house. Curious, I followed the sound to the living room, where Colin and Meredith were playfully tickling each other. I felt a strange discomfort and called out, “Hey!” They didn’t hear me, so I raised my voice. Meredith glanced over, annoyed.

“Jeez, no need to shout,” she said. Colin finally noticed me and hugged me, but I felt uneasy.

Meredith stood up and hugged me back, but her response was cold. “Well, he hasn’t told me much about you.” I tried to brush it off, but her tone was sharp, asking why I hadn’t come to the airport with Colin.

At dinner, Colin and Meredith reminisced about their childhood, barely acknowledging me. Meredith frequently touched Colin’s arm, making me uncomfortable. After dinner, Colin helped me clear the table, but Meredith remarked, “Wow, your future wife can’t even clean up the dishes herself.”

Later, I learned Colin planned to sleep in the same room as Meredith that night, which left me feeling sidelined. I reluctantly agreed to stay in the guest room, feeling my frustrations rise.

The next morning, I decided to make Colin’s favorite pancakes. Meredith walked in and scoffed, saying he preferred pancakes with bacon. When Colin chose bacon over chocolate chips, I felt my heart sink. I stormed out, crushed.

Later, Colin told me Meredith wanted to be the maid of honor. I was taken aback. “I already have a maid of honor!” I argued, but Colin insisted. “She’s my sister.”

“Then what about me?” I shot back. His indifference made my blood boil.

I overheard Meredith telling Colin I wasn’t good enough for him. “Give her an ultimatum: either I’m the maid of honor, or there’s no wedding,” she suggested. I couldn’t stay quiet any longer.

I burst into the room, shouting, “I’ve had enough! The wedding is off!” I tossed my engagement ring onto the floor.

Meredith smirked, saying I was crazy. I replied, “I’d rather be crazy than deal with this.”

I stormed out, realizing how fortunate I was that Meredith had shown up. I was about to marry a man who prioritized his sister over me. I couldn’t believe I ever wanted this.
