After preparing dinner for her children, husband and mother-in-law, a woman left her food ration behind while she was doing some chore. When she returned to eat it, it had disappeared.

A woman took to Reddit to find out if she was being unreasonable in her reaction to the actions of her mother-in-law, who had cooked dinner for her entire family. She was horrified by the incident.
The woman shared that her mother-in-law had come to her house for dinner and clarified that, unless it was a big event, her family ate in the living room, leaving her to plate and serve each person’s portion.

The woman said she had no problem plating everyone’s food and serving it. She had made Swedish meatballs in sauce with mashed potatoes, broccoli and homemade bread, which she plated and served to her family. However, what happened next upset her.

What did the woman’s mother-in-law do?
After serving dinner to her family, the woman left her portion in the kitchen while she went out to tend to the laundry she had hung out to dry earlier. She then returned to the kitchen to get her food.The woman served each portion generously, plating more than she thought her family could possibly eat. However, when she returned to the kitchen, the portion she had served herself was gone. This is how she recounted it :
“I asked if anyone knew what had happened to the food bank, and my mother-in-law told me she wanted more.”

After her mother-in-law told her what had happened, the woman noticed that her mother-in-law’s plate was full of meatballs. The woman thought that her mother-in-law had served herself more food than she could eat.Although the woman was shocked, she thought that she might have made too little food for her family and decided that she would buy fast food later that night, as she thought that her mother-in-law might have been “super hungry.” However, her mother-in-law’s next actions shocked her.

What happened next?
The woman had made peace with her mother-in-law’s eating her fill, but she was displeased with what happened next. When her mother-in-law had eaten her fill, she asked if she could borrow a container to take the remaining food home for dinner the next night.
The woman became very angry with her mother-in-law and told her that the remaining food was supposed to be her dinner for that night, not for her mother-in-law to take home for dinner the next night.Hearing this, the woman’s mother-in-law told her that she could keep the remaining food. The woman refused, explaining that she did not want to eat the leftovers from her mother-in-law’s dinner and giving her a container to take the food home with her.

Later, the woman’s husband asked her what was wrong. She explained that she was upset because she had prepared the meal and had not been able to eat it, and that she was hungry. The woman’s husband agreed and texted his mother to let her know that she had crossed the line and to ask her to apologize.

However, instead of apologising, the woman’s mother said she had been rude and should have cooked more, anticipating that her mother-in-law might want to take food home.
The mother-in-law then took to social media to share the story, and those who saw the posts said the woman was a bad host and was in the wrong for not cooking enough for her mother-in-law to take food home. She said :

“I should also add that I am currently pregnant, and I think I can be quite unreasonable at times due to hormones.”

The answer to her question was resounding, with many netizens telling her that she was not at all unreasonable for expecting to be able to eat what she had cooked. Many showed their support by saying that her mother-in-law was rude for expecting leftovers.

Another Reddit user also had a problem with her mother-in-law at home when the older woman asked her for $200 to clean her house. The woman was outraged, especially since she hadn’t asked her mother-in-law to clean for her.
