My mother-in-law went on my honeymoon to make my life miserable — I didn’t want to put up with it and planned the perfect revenge

My story is about learning to set boundaries, respect, and more. What started as a trip for a couple in love ended up being a tense vacation that included my troublesome mother-in-law. Luckily, I had a plan that helped me remedy the problem.

What was supposed to be a romantic getaway for me and my new husband quickly turned into a nightmare when we were joined by an unexpected guest. Let me back up a bit and explain how this all came about.
My husband, Mike, and I were getting ready to go on our honeymoon. We had been planning this trip for months, and I was excited! As we got in the car to head to the airport, Mike casually mentioned that we needed to stop by his mom’s house first.

“Why?” I asked, puzzled. “Because he’s coming with us.” I was confused and asked, “What?” Sighing, she explained, “He’s never been on holiday or travelled abroad in his entire life, so it’s only right that he comes with us.”To say I was stunned would be an understatement. “When were you planning to tell me? And what about our previous reservations?” I asked, trying to remain calm. “I changed the reservations and tickets a while ago,” he informed me.

“Actually, she insisted on it, and I thought you wouldn’t mind since you’re such a nice person.” That statement sent me from confusion to anger. I was furious that she had decided everything without me and changed our reservations. The thought of spending two weeks on the islands with my mother-in-law seemed like hell to me. I was so devastated that I even considered cancelling the whole thing. But then I had a BRILLIANT idea! When we arrived at my mother-in-law’s house, my husband went out to find her.

As Mike loaded his mother’s luggage into our car, I made a quick call. “Mom, hey. I’m having a little problem,” I began. “What’s up, honey?” Her voice sounded concerned. “My mother-in-law made Mike decide to take her with us on our honeymoon.”
“What? Oh no, Elle!” my mother exclaimed, shocked and instantly disappointed. “She’s coming with us to the islands, and I have no idea how I’m going to handle it. Could you and Dad join us? I’ll book tickets for you.” Worried, she asked, “How did this happen?”

“I can’t go into details now, Mom. I have to act quickly.” Mom quickly understood the situation and replied sympathetically: “Of course, dear. Your father and I will be happy to go. Tell us where you will stay and we will arrange everythingI booked his tickets online without wasting any time and shared all the details with Mom. She promised me that she would do everything possible so that I could enjoy my time with Mike without worrying about my nosy mother-in-law.

When we arrived on the islands, the nightmare began immediately. Linda followed us everywhere. She was CONSTANTLY complaining and demanding her son’s attention. We couldn’t rest or be alone with her around.“Mike, get me a towel. Mike, order me a cocktail. Mike, help me pick out souvenirs.” Her incessant requests were endless. I felt like she was his wife, not me. Instead, I felt like some kind of servant.

The first two days were a disaster! Linda made sure she was the center of attention. And all the romantic moments I had imagined were quickly ruined. She criticized the hotel, the food, and EVEN the weather!
Mike, caught between his mother and me, tried to keep the peace. But he ended up spending MOST of his time indulging her whims. The second night, we decided to have a special dinner by the beach. Just when I thought we were going to enjoy some alone time, Linda INSISTED on joining us.

He spent the entire dinner complaining about the sand and mosquitoes, leaving me seething with frustration! At one point, he even managed to spill his drink on MY dress! Instead of apologizing, he laughed!

“Oh, I’m such a klutz. Mike, can you get her another drink?” was her response to the disaster. I could see the tension on my husband’s face as he tried to juggle his mother’s demands with my growing frustration.

The romantic dinner by the beach turned into another exercise in patience. The next morning, Linda decided she wanted to go snorkeling. This was a plan Mike and I had initially made for ourselves. “It’s not safe for you to go alone,” she insisted. “Mike, you should come with me.”I had reached my limit. I needed an ally, someone who would understand my situation and help me get my honeymoon back. Luckily, two days later my parents arrived. My mother, Diane, and my father, Jack, played the perfect loving couple.

Their gestures were romantic with kisses straight out of a movie, which drove Linda CRAZY with jealousy! My mother-in-law had left her husband at home and had come alone on vacation. So she had no choice but to see my parents, who looked like happy and affectionate lovebirds.
They were very affectionate, holding hands, whispering sweet nothings, and kissing frequently. This made Linda’s jealousy palpable. I was shocked, because I had never seen my parents act like that. But they seemed to be having a good time, so I didn’t care.

“I’ve never seen such an affectionate couple,” Linda grumbled as we all ate dinner together. “All that hugging and kissing… it’s ridiculous.”

“We’re just enjoying life,” Mom replied with a smile. “What else is there to do in such a wonderful place?”

Linda’s jealousy reached new heights when Mom and Dad joined us for breakfast the next day. They fed each other bites of fruit and laughed at shared memories. My mother-in-law could barely contain her irritation.

“Jack, do you remember our trip to Paris?” Mom asked, her eyes shining. “That little café by the Seine?”

“Oh, how could I forget? The croissants were divine, but your company was even better,” Dad replied, kissing her hand.
Linda rolled her eyes and muttered something under her breath. I couldn’t help but smile, feeling a small sense of victory. With my mother-in-law worried about my parents, Mike and I finally had some romantic moments.

One evening, as we were walking along the beach, he stopped and looked into my eyes. “I’m sorry, my love,” he said softly. “I realize now that it wasn’t fair to you. My mother shouldn’t have come with us.” I sighed and took his hand. “The important thing is that we’re here together.”

“And we’ll find a way to enjoy this honeymoon, even with your mother around.” As we returned to the hotel, we saw Mom and Dad playing cards with Linda. They were laughing and joking around like they were old friends. “How was the outing?” Mom asked, looking at us.

“Wonderful,” Mike replied, hugging me. “We found a cozy place to have dinner tomorrow. Maybe we could go just the two of us?” he asked. “Of course,” Mom winked. “We’ll stay here and take care of Clarissa.”The next day, Mike and I finally had a proper romantic evening. We sat on the beach, watched the sunset, and shared dreams about our future. “You know,” he said, taking my hand, “I never thought a honeymoon could be so… hectic. But I’m glad we’re here together.”

“Me too,” I replied, smiling. “And I appreciate my parents coming. Maybe we can find more time for the two of us.” Mike said he’d love to, and we shared a warm, loving kiss.
When we got back to the hotel, we saw my mother-in-law saying goodnight to my parents. “It’s been a lovely evening,” she told them reluctantly. “Thanks for the company.” My parents smiled and winked at me. They knew they were making our holiday better.

This honeymoon tested us, but we came out stronger. And I was grateful to my parents for their support and love. In the end, what was supposed to be a nightmare turned into a memorable experience, thanks to my parents.

He taught Mike and me the importance of communication and setting boundaries. He showed Linda that her son’s happiness depended on their marriage, not on her whims. A few weeks after returning home, Mike and I sat down with Linda.

Gently but firmly, we laid down some new ground rules for our relationship. Surprisingly, she agreed, perhaps realizing that her son’s happiness was at stake. “Thanks for understanding, Mom,” Mike said, hugging her. “We love you, but we need our space, too
“Of course, honey,” Linda replied, a hint of sadness in her eyes. “I just want them both to be happy.” And so we began to rebuild our lives, stronger and more united than ever.

Elle managed to put her mother-in-law in her place very well. In the following story, Barbara thought she would win her mother-in-law’s sympathy by organizing a surprise birthday party for her. Instead, the older woman thanked her by making her cry and forcing her to flee her own party.
