The Grand Oak Dinner
The low hum of chatter and clink of silverware filled the air as I nervously adjusted my cuff links. Tonight, at the Grand Oak Hotel, my career hinged on this dinner.

I glanced at my watch, anxiety rising. Where was she?
Autumn finally arrived in an emerald dress, her red hair a striking contrast. But she had a surprise—a towheaded boy clutching a stuffed dinosaur.
“Ivan, meet Oliver,” she said, her eyes apologetic. “His dad was supposed to pick him up, but…”
“Hello, Oliver,” I greeted, shaking his small hand. “Just for tonight, buddy.”
At the table, Oliver’s curiosity eased my nerves. When Mr. Fernandes arrived, I introduced Autumn as my wife and Oliver as my son. The evening flowed naturally, and I felt a warmth that went beyond ambition.
Getting to Know Each Other
A week later, Autumn and Oliver visited my apartment. We played games, watched cartoons, and shared pizza. I found myself genuinely enjoying their company.
On a park bench, watching Oliver chase butterflies, I confessed to Autumn, “I’m falling in love with you and Oliver.”
She smiled, her eyes meeting mine. “I love you too, Ivan.”
The Office Party

At the office party, Autumn and Oliver looked perfect. But Dan, Autumn’s ex, showed up and caused a scene. “So, this is your wife, huh?” he sneered.
I leaned in. “Autumn is my girlfriend.”
Dan’s outburst revealed our arrangement. Oliver defended me, saying, “You’re way better than my dad.”
Mr. Fernandes witnessed it and, after the truth came out, was impressed with how we acted like a real family.
A New Beginning
Later, as we drove home, I realized I had fallen for Autumn and Oliver for real. At her apartment, we shared a quiet moment on the balcony.
“I’ve fallen in love with you both,” I confessed.
“I love you too,” she whispered.
In that moment, I knew I’d fight for this new, genuine family.
