Jack and I never thought our ideal house would become a nightmare when we bought it. Carlos, our crew leader, found a secret door behind a wall during repairs. We were excited to open it and discover a room full of insects and decaying clothing.

Jack slammed the door shut and screamed, “We can’t stay here.”

While pest control dealt with the issue, we packed our belongings and stayed with friends. The next few weeks passed in a flurry of bedtime stories and pest control appointments. When Frank from pest control finally called, he showed off the wooden box full of antique jewels that had been discovered in the secret area.

After much deliberation, we decided to sell the jewels and utilize the proceeds for home remodeling. We were able to rebuild the hidden area and make other renovations because the sale brought in more money than anticipated.

The remainder of the house was transformed into a stunning space, and the hidden room was transformed into a comfortable reading nook. Along with other upgrades, we added a new kitchen and a rear porch. Our terrifying tale had evolved into something lovely.

We had a housewarming party and our friends were amazed with the transformations. Feeling proud of ourselves, Jack and I stood in our little reading nook.

Jack exclaimed, his eyes gleaming with joy, “You did it, Liv.”

“We succeeded. Together,” I answered.

I realized our fantasy had become something much better as we sat in our cozy, remodeled house. We would confront any surprises that awaited us together, thankful for our unanticipated turn of events.
