Henry was on his way to meet his fiancée’s parents for the first time, clutching a bouquet and battling nerves. He wanted everything to be perfect, but fate had other plans.
On the crowded bus, a sudden commotion disrupted Henry’s thoughts. A teenage boy was trying to steal a wallet from an elderly woman. Without hesitation, Henry intervened, grabbing the boy and holding him until the bus driver called the police. The other passengers looked on in relief and admiration.
The elderly woman, trembling, thanked Henry profusely. “You saved me, young man.”
“It was nothing,” Henry replied, though he was relieved to have helped.
In the chaos, Henry realized he had missed his stop. Panicking, he tried to make his way back, but the elderly woman followed him off the bus. “Please, let me thank you properly,” she said. “I’m Agnes, and I have a gift for seeing the future. Would you allow me to read your fortune?”
Henry hesitated. “I’m really in a hurry. I’m meeting my fiancée’s parents today.”
Agnes’s eyes darkened. “Who rushes to a funeral?” she said cryptically.
Henry frowned. “What funeral? I’m meeting the love of my life’s parents.”
“Believe me, if you go there, a funeral is inevitable. To avoid this, never tell her father your real last name.”
Henry’s heart skipped a beat. “What do you mean?”

“Your last name is tied to something dark. Her father will recognize it and it will lead to tragedy. Trust me.”
Bewildered but intrigued, Henry agreed to take Agnes’s card. He thanked her and hurried to catch another bus, his mind racing.
When Henry arrived at Emily’s parents’ grand estate, he was met with a warm but scrutinizing reception. Emily greeted him with a hug, but her father, Charles, scrutinized him closely. Her mother, Margaret, was more welcoming.
As dinner began, Henry recalled Agnes’s warning and introduced himself as Henry Johnson. Charles’s questions were probing, but Henry managed to avoid specifics about his past.
Then, the moment came. “I know your real last name isn’t Johnson,” Charles said suddenly. “It’s Blackwood, isn’t it?”
Henry’s blood ran cold. “Yes, it’s true. My family has a troubled past, but I didn’t want that to affect our future. I love Emily and didn’t want to deceive you.”
Charles’s face hardened. “The Blackwood name is infamous. Your uncle killed my sister in a hit-and-run and evaded justice. I can’t accept you under these circumstances.”
Emily looked devastated. “Is this true, Henry?”
Henry nodded, his heart breaking. “Yes, but I didn’t want this to affect us.”
Emily stood up, tears streaming down her face. “I need some time to think,” she said, and left the room.
Henry was dismissed by Charles and left the house feeling defeated. In the following days, Emily remained distant, and Henry felt lost. Then, Agnes called.
“I sensed you might need my help again,” she said.
Henry explained the situation, and Agnes advised him to confront his family’s past and seek forgiveness. Despite his skepticism, Henry was desperate enough to try.
He visited the families wronged by his ancestors, listened to their stories, and apologized sincerely. It was a humbling process, but slowly, he began to earn their forgiveness.
One day, Emily called. They met at a café where she revealed that she had been moved by Henry’s efforts to make amends.
“I’ve heard about what you’ve been doing,” Emily said. “It means a lot to me.”
Henry took her hand. “I’m sorry for the deceit. I love you, and I want to make things right.”
Emily squeezed his hand. “I believe you, but we need to rebuild trust.”
Henry agreed and promised to do whatever it took. With Agnes’s guidance, Henry continued to address his family’s wrongdoings, revealing the full extent of their past and working to repair the damage.
Gradually, with his honesty and efforts, Henry was able to heal the rifts. Emily, seeing his determination and integrity, decided to give their relationship another chance. Together, they built a future free from the shadows of the past, demonstrating that love and honesty could overcome even the deepest wounds.
